The main
idea behind the book «Start with Why» by Simon Sinnek, is the premise that to
start a good story we have to start with the “why” of the main character, that means
his motivations or triggers will unfold events in a fluid and articulated way.
Certainly
when we watch a movie or read a book, the first thing that interests us is to
know the moral motivations of the main characters.
As long as these motivations have to do with moral conflicts, the more interesting the plot and the characters involved become.
During the
last months I have been working on the creation of journalistic content around
news about the current political situation in my country, as well as
interesting international news. It's clearly something that I particularly like
and enjoy.
In the very
beginning of this channel, my content was more related to my own professional specialty,
corporate communication, marketing, public relations, etc.
However, I
have also had the need to talk about some other topics of a more intimate nature
or share other forms of expression that I also find attractive, exciting and
uplifting, such as travel and photography.
In that
sense, I have been experimenting with some alternative content on this channel
and seeing how much impact they have among my followers and subscribers.
In fact,
the most successful contents were those related to Peruvian news, and that
generated a good part of the current subscribers, who in turn, expect similar
content.
However, I
have made the decision to change the content that I am going to communicate
through this channel, because I want to explore more broadly my creativity and
communicate other personal aspects.
The old
format, somehow, confines me to a single tone of communication and appeals to a
more rational plane. Now instead, I would like to appeal to more spiritual and
emotional elements from a different audience.
What type
of channel will it be? I have watched other YouTube channels with vlog content
and there is always a guiding thread that facilitates the development of the
narrative. In this case there will not be a single guiding thread or common
theme
As long as
the topics are interesting for me, I will be happy to talk about them; but
surely there are some guiding lines I would like to talk about…
First and
foremost I am going to talk a lot about my Catholic faith and my search for
Christ. Being a Catholic from the cradle, I have returned with perseverance to
my Catholic faith that, with imperfections, I try to cultivate through reading
and prayer.
It is not
an easy path, but it is a path that must be traveled. In that sense, I will
share what little I know about my faith, as well as much about prayer and the
new ways that I am finding to get closer to God.
Therefore,
you can also expect a lot of literary content from my favorite authors, such as
G.K. Chesterton, C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Saint Thomas Aquinas, etc. Or some
literary reference to an author that I find really interesting and from which
we can obtain conclusions that help us improve as people.
Another of
my great passions will also be present, although I am not necessarily an expert
on the subject, which is photography.
I practice
photography in an amateur way, not as much as I would like or with the
necessary technical level, but I think it is one of the most beautiful
expressions there can be.
Much can be
said through images, without the need to add something else to the extent that
we are visual beings.
That is
also why, whenever possible I will go out to look at the urban landscape of
Lima and its surroundings, and as far as possible I will explore some
interesting landscape, some pre-Hispanic ruin, some old church, and even some
trip outside of Lima if it is the case.
Traveling
is probably one of my favorite hobbies. It is a path of discovery that not only
allows us to know the landscape or history of a country or region, but also
challenges us in relation to ourselves in relation to that new place that we
are getting to know.
I would
also like to talk about that, and I think this is a good opportunity to do so.
Now why the
decision to do it in English. The quickest answer is that I want to improve my
English skills. But the longest answer, and probably the most appropriate one,
is that I want to reach an audience for which the Hispanic world is more
remote, in terms of language, customs, landscape, etc.
It is a
challenge to make videos in another language and try to let yourself be
understood by cultures other than your own; but I think this kind of cultural
and personal discovery is well worth it.
In general,
if we had to necessarily introduce some kind of nominalism or label in this
blog, this would be the discovery of worlds, and the search for the meaning of
things and of ourselves.
